After reading yours and others replies I am going to make some significant changes on a couple of the more stress prone fields I will put in corn this year.   Going to put out the population and fertilize for a more realistic yield goal than I have been doing in the past along with picking a hybrid that stands stress real good and has a good flex ear.   

By the way, what width rows do you all plant in?
