Sorry for the late reply.

I don't mean to come across as suggesting that no fertilizer applications are necessary, but rather think of it this way- If I put on 80# of P, 120# of K, I raise 150bu corn or 45bu soybeans. If you put on the same, wouldn't you expect yields much higher, even if our fertility levels according to the soil test are the same?

Now.... how do I make my soil more like yours? Simply pouring on the fertilizer won't do, your soil is simply better than mine in other areas that determine yield. Commercial fertilizer recommendations don't always recognize this.

There is plenty to be discovered about making nutrients already in the soil more plant available. Please don't mistake my line of thinking with that of some who advocate no fertilizer use or special additives, that's not what I am suggesting.
