Possibly the farmer wanted to pay the employees 30,000/year for 2500 hours work. In town they made 35,000/year, with some benefits, and 2,000 hours work a year, with most weekends off. Many gave a ****, but could make more elsewhere. That scenario goes on today, it will go on forever.
Well, I had an employee who was making 2 1/2 times that much considering all benefits including direct 25% of paycheck retirement, health insurance and truck to drive, for a 2500 hour work year. Mid 30’s going on 16 years full time employment. Still became unhappy over the years because of the success of our business after 45-50 years of our back breaking work and investments, decided they weren’t being compensated enough when compared to the owners. So it’s not always possible to make every employee happy. |
