Subject: RE: Pipeline hit

Ludington/Manistee MI area

I am one of the unemployable meth head and whatever other names y’all have for the line locators for my employer.  I get an email that contains the ticket info and have 3 business days to mark it.  Their is also an emergency ticket for  scenario’s like when drunks snap off power poles.  I’ve marked emergency tickets with bucket trucks working on damaged power lines above me. I’ve also had the sheriffs department block a 5 lane highway to mark for  MDOT projects.  I’ve marked these lines enough I can pretty much tell you where the are without the tool but still hook it up to cover my butt.  This past spring had this contractor call saying they hit one of our lines went out nope our line is over here and took two strides and scuffed the ground with my heal.  Forman jabbered in Spanish with his crew two guys came over with shovels and asked if they mind if they dug it up.  I know I’m right go for it.  Sure enough they dug where I scuffed with my heal and found our line.  Hooked up locator and the line was where I told them.   Ends up the line they struck was something the company that previously owned our site abandoned in the late 80’s all it was is a stickof pipe left in the ground 35 years ago that’s not hooked to anything and has no leads to connect to.  On the average about one ticket a day comes in(missdigs are a small portion of my role) it would amaze you how piss poorly people can do at entering a description and even putting a circle or rectangle on a map of where they are working.  About the best are the power companies tickets are dead on and very well marked.
