I was taught to always pill up on the crank as well, never push down ( F-20) That way if it kicked back it would pull the crank out of your fingers. If you pushed down it could kick back & break your wrist or arm or worse. Have heard of a couple guys getting their jaws broken when pushing down on the crank & the engine kicked back.
