Subject: RE: Seeding canola with Valmar

Rivers, MB
Be careful that you don't have a small Valmar on a big harrow/cultivator. We tried to adapt our Valmar that was sized for a 30-40' cultivator at 5-6mph onto a 50' heavy harrow and tried to go 10mph. There is too much back pressure on the hoses that go to the end that we were limited as to how fast we could go when putting down Edge at 22 lb/ac.

I would suggest calling Valmar in Elie, MB and talking to Gilbert in sales or Dennis in Engineering. They will be able to help you out. I used to work there and I know they've done some work with seeding canola.

My own experience with blowing on canola (either with the Valmar or with an airplane) is that it works best onto land that has been tilled before "seeding". Stubble fields don't seem to have enough loose dirt to cover the canola with a heavy harrow. Tilling it would work but your depth of seeds would be quite variable.

Good luck
