Planters work best at about 5 mph. My 4 row would do about 40 acres a day. So that formula would work out to be 10 * n rows per day. Multiply that capacity by 7 or 14 days that you can tolerate for planting a crop. Then divide into the acres. Or rows = acres / (10 x days). In my crops a 6 row combine does about the same acres per day, so the formula would be rows = acres / (6.7 x days). Days likely will be more for harvest than planting. Others may have different criteria.
