NW IOWA | Lot of crown rot this year in corn. Crown rot is a type of stalk rot that enters the plant early. Affects the stalk right above the root crown. Main cause was wet and cold early in growing season and plant could not shed or out grow it. Stalk can not supply enough nutrients to feed the ear kinda like trying to drink through a pinched straw. Split the stalk right above the root length ways. Should show deteriorated stalk if this is the culprit. | |
