It's been about 17-18 years ago now and we need to do it again but we had a guy with a big ditcher come out and dig trenches about 10 ft apart on a very sandy hill in one field. We then took a Baker disc plow and had to tie 2 tractors onto it to be able to pull it but we plowed it as deep as we could bury that plow.

We brought up lots of clay and the next 5-6 years you could see exactly where that was done in terms of crop improvement.

That was when diesel was still pretty cheap though and the guy with the ditcher didn't charge but maybe a ΒΌ of what they do now if even that much.


And that particular field has no caliche that shallow anyway.
