Subject: Re: A little more about moldboard plowing---------

southern MN
Poor fall primary tillage is better than good spring primary tillage.

I only had 30 acres or so left, just did 1/3 of it this afternoon. the frost is about 3-4 inches deep, so the plow wanted to pop out or go deep. Just had to deal with it, and plow as best I could. Some is plowed pretty shallow, but it will warm & dry better in spring this way than if I do nothing at all, and for my area, it needs a lot of warming & drying in spring. Primary reason for plowing.

Common for a plow to be in it's 'sweet spot' when plowing 1/2 as deep as the bottoms are wide - 16" bottoms go 8" deep, etc.
