Windstar, you mentioned keeping the tractor on the strips with GPS. In my opinion, unless you have RTK, you can manually steer and stay closer on center than using GPS with WAAS or Omnistar for correction. I have always used a mounted planter and don't see them as being a problem. Just shim all the slack our of the hitch sway blocks. Also, it does help to not crown the strips too much. I don't know that much about your terrain or normal rainfall, but here it is pretty flat and an arid climate, therefore, we don't have too much worry about the strips washing out, so I tend to not crown or ridge the strips very much and this seems to help the planter stay centered a little better.
