Subject: planting on strip-till strips -- how do you do it?

Idaho
we're new to the strip-till thing here in southern idaho. this spring a neighbor came over with his schlagel and made some strips for us. we found that unless the strip tiller made some kind of mark for the planter to follow, we had a hard time keeping the planter on the row.

we have our own tiller now -- an orthman 1tripr -- and are trying to make some strips into standing wheat stubble about 20" tall. we've rigged up some diamond points and gauge wheels behind the tiller to make a mark for the planter to follow, but they keep plugging up with all the residue.

in all the pics i've seen posted here of strip tillers, none seem to leave a mark for the planter. how do you guys keep your planters on the row? i understand how to keep the tractor on -- GPS -- but the planter baffles me. our planter is on a three-point hitch; i wonder if that's the trouble?
