Subject: RE: Tedbear - Using Insight with old Hiniker?

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Some of the older Hiniker components can be used with the Ag Leader Direct Command Liquid components for NH3. This would consist of a Liquid Control Module which connects to the flowmeter, ON/OFF valve(s) and Control Valve and also an Auxillary Input module which connects to a switchbox to inform the system which boom section(s) you wish to be ON/OFF. You should already have the Auxilary Input module and switchbox from the planting situation.

The Hiniker Flow meter can run off of the Ag Leader LCM. The control valve may or may not depending of which style of Hiniker Control valve you have. Hiniker commonly used a hyd shutoff for the main shut off but it sounds like you have two KZ Nh3 ON/OFF valves to split the bar.

Since you menton the flow/servo unit I am of the opinion that you have been using the paddle wheel/control servo unit which would not work out very well with the Ag Leader system. Ag Leaders assumption is that you would be using Raven components and the Raven control valve has some different characteristics than the servo mentioned.

The Hiniker heat exchanger could be used with a Raven control valve, a Raven flowmeter and a Raven On/Off Master valve. Your KZ section valves should work fine for the section shut offs.

The Insight would need the Autoswath unlock which you would already have for the planter. With a split system it is best to have a Master ON/OFF valve and then section shutoffs after that. The vapor line to feed the cooler is taken off between the Master ON/OFF and the section valves. We install a diode bridge in the wiring harness leading to the ON/OFF valves. The idea of the bridge is that if either section valve or both are ON, then the Master is activated. If both section valves are OFF then the Master is also OFF.

The thing to be aware of is that with the Direct Command system turning ON a boom section only gives the system PERMISSION to turn ON that section if it sees fit. The system will never turn ON a section if you have that section switch OFF.

If you have a section switch ON, the system will turn that section ON only if certain conditions are met such as having a target rate and being over an unapplied area with Autoswath active.

Since your Hinkiker components have served you for 25 years, an update of some of the pieces is probably wise at this point in time.

The Insight and the soon to be released Edge display should both work fine for this application.
