Subject: Re: Zone Sampling - Revisited

Victoria, Australia
I can understand what you are saying, and certainly don't disagree. It's just from a larger farms perspective, zoning by yield, NDVI (2m2) and soil maps (Gamma, EM38& analysis) seems to give a practical and resonably accurate way of creating and addressing field zones.
Also can you be confident that the values you are getting back from the lab are accurate. I certainly wouldn't base our VR maps from N,P& Ksoil analysis values, we use them to diagnose pH and maybe give us a clue on any nutritional variations between zones that show up. We tend to utilise yield map data to do an audit on whats been taken out of zones that previous year, and then replace the following year and also "tweak" the areas that potentially should be doing better. Several years of NDVI and yield Data to me is probably the most helpful tools we have.
I just some times wonder if too much information can somtimes stop us seeing the obvious?
