| I agree w/ Pat-Michigan -- leave the stalk standing as much as possible. Carry the corn head high, and drive fast. AGCO corn heads leave the stalk mostly intact; next is Deere; Case heads do the most stalk chopping (except for Geringhoff, etc). It may be possible to modify the snap-rolls on these heads to do still less stalk breakage -- there are aftermarket snap-rolls that are *more* aggressive than OEM, so it shouldn't be any big trick to make some that are *less* aggressive.
Other than that, it is just a matter of having the planter set up to handle the residue. I know of guys who do it on 20-inch corn in a pure no-till system, so it *can* be done. | |
