Effingham, IL | One thing you need to consider with nitrogen is luxury consumption. A corn plant will take up more nitrogen than is needed if it is in a place and form that it can easily get at it. This fall (actually late summer), I've noticed that some of my strip-till seems to have run short on nitrogen as compared to the guys doing conventional till and using similar rates of N. I seen this in the fall of 2006 and just wrote it off as an anomaly, but I'm seeing it again this year. Needless to say, I'm somewhat concerned. | |
