Centre county Pennsylvania, USA | We are satisfied with "free" WAAS performance for now also. It consistently does a better job steering for any field operation than we can do by manual steering with row markers or foam markers. Going to RTK would probably improve field operations steering accuracy to a noticeable degree. The other DGPS correction services (SF2, XP, HP, etc) promise performance somewhere between WAAS and RTK, but they cost nearly as much as RTK..... so why bother.
We will consider upgrading from WAAS to RTK only when we can get free DOT RTK corrections from cell phone (internet). Free WAAS service has totally spoiled us. We do realize that WAAS and DOT RTK corrections are not truly free, but we have already paid for that, it's part of the tax money we all pay to national and state government agencies. |
