and I'll admit that it's not the best method, but we've got a Morton building that was put up in 1978. It has two of those "goofy" things, one set in concrete and one in gravel. We've never, in 30 years, ruined a tire, torn up any equipment, etc. Maybe we're just lucky or overly cautious. I do like the car tire idea, though.
