Nevada, Iowa
We did nearly the same thing except we got rid of the post entirely. Ours are Lester's but same principal. We pulled the post and widened and cleaned the hole. Then drove rebar into the hole to get below frost depth. Formed up a 2x6 box on the top about 2 foot square. Poured the whole thing full of quickcrete and set the door catcher after we welded some steel beneath it to anchor it in the crete. After that dried, we got rid of the form and compacted some crushed rock from that little pad to each door post. We set 2 bridge planks on that rock and drilled about 6 holes in each plank. Took more rebar and made 6 foot lengths with a washer welded on one end and drove them straight down thru the holes in the planks to anchor them. Then we closed the doors and put a treated 2x4 right behind the door and screwed it down to the bridge plank. They have stayed put winter and summer and they make the building bird proof as long as we remember to shut the doors. Sorry for the long post but we've been real happy with our solution to the doors on our sheds.
