Driftless SW Wisconsin

In your conditions you might want to run a larger diameter (16" dia min) FRAME (not row unit) mounted ripple (cuts better than as smooth one) coulter up ahead of the row unit.

In second crop beans into wheat we generally recommend as mentioned by others here, just run a row cleanar and no coulter.

Coulters do however extend the life of the doble disk opener blades and bearings. A frame mounted coulter will let you reduce the row unit downp pressure spring or airbag setting, hopefully increasing opener disk and bearing life.

When you have all these bearings failing, do you see significant wear on the blade itself? (significantly smaller diameter than when new?)

Good luck.
