southwest illinois
cottonfarmer:
I just got done with my 5500 soybean special planting double crops without coulters.
My opinion is the early riser unit will always cut thru the matted down straw and at least place the bean in the dirt. If i want a coulter in front in wheat straw I'll have a Great plains turbo coulter not a wavy coulter. Most coulter will just hairpin the straw but the row unit will slice thru. I dont notill full season beans so i dont know about those conditions.
