Is the condenser by chance in the grille like a KW? I'm not that familiar w/Petes of that vintage...if you're charging w/the hood tilted, there's no air flow thru the cond., & the pressure will go high. If the pressure went that high that soon, it sounds like a condenser problem. How about the fan clutch? you gotta have air flow...If it's cooling at all, w/ the return line sweating, I can't hardly imagine your exp. valve is bad. Classic symptom of a bad ex. valve is---low side will stay in vacuum, high side will not go above about 75-80 lb., no or very little cooling...
Siezed al fittings can be a pain, soak 'em w/your favorite Panther P...& let them sit, maybe a little judicious heat, but watch out w/flame around 134...a heat gun might be the nuts if you have one...I've had them just wipe the threads out of the fitting no matter what you do. A little anti-seize will prevent the problem in the future.
