In 1997, I had a quarter of barley which had beards visible, and was looking like an 80 bushel crop get hammered into the ground, literally below ankle high. They wrote it off, along with my wheat in the same stage. I left it, intending to bale or mow it, and dang if I still didn't get 30 bushel wheat, and 45 bushel barley, on top of my decent insurance claim. They were good paying crops, considering how cheap it was to farm back in the good old days...

I'm not saying they are right necessarily. i'm just sharing a personal surprise story that happened to me personally. I wish I had left my canola, peas, and all the rest of my crops that I tilled down.... And at least the adjuatsers wrote mine off. Fortunately conditions were right for me to capture a little revenue from what looked like a golf corse after that fateful day, July 8th, 1997. There may behope for a bit of salvage, if moisture falls, and you have enough window for maturity...
