| We tried crop insurance but they won't insure us by the field, just for the whole farm. We're so spread out (fields over an hour away each way with the shop in the middle and some on the coast and some inland) that we always have great crops in some areas, average in some, and poor for one reason or another (bugs, drought, hail, frost, whatever) on the remainder. On average, everything just keeps getting better as we get better, so even if disaster struck a few fields they'd never pay a cent because the whole-farm crop was still good. I'd consider it if everything was in one small area or in the same microclimate but only then. | |
