have lots of experience with both having designed and built them. If you build a pocket for the sliding door and a track to keep the door locked in top and bottom, they won't give you a problem. Have two 44 footer on two buildings and never had a problem in 25 years except for ice and snow. Have a bifold 64 feet long of a unique design that will handle any wind the building will take. If head room is a problem you can suspend the upper hinges above the opening to get full clearance. Single fold hydraulic doors are okay but if you are going to build it yourself there are more complications in design and stress than you might think while ordinary bifolds are fairly simple and don't need to be as heavy as most people build them. One other note, the folding doors are more dangerous. I know of one person killed and several others feeling lucky they weren't.
Someone should build a safety device for falling bifolds, like a seatbelt that allows slow movement but not a sudden fall.
