I think you answered the question. "Limited headroom and can't make door shorter". A bifold door takes about 30 to 40 inches for the V. ( more is better) A hydraulic swing door will give full clearance. The only downside is snow. Snow will have to be moved before the hydraulic is opened. Maybe you aren't in the frozen north. Still frozen. :(
