Northeast Louisiana
We've been a little wetter this spring than normal here in Northeast Louisiana. Windy too, which has hampered the application of spring burndown herbicides, especially with all the wheat around this year.

We got about half of our corn planted early this week, but a lot of people were waiting to see what this rain was going to do. Soil temp Monday was 59 degrees. Got a few tenths of rain Tuesday night and yesterday morning, but will probably resume planting late this week or over the weekend. We're about a week behind where we'd like to be, but not too worried yet. Luckily, we missed most of the rains that hit east Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri.

All of our corn ground is stale seedbed which was worked up last fall, so we can plant as soon as the ground will hold the tractor up. Guys that are having to work up the ground in the spring are sitting still because it's too wet work work the ground. But by early next week, I think corn planting will be in full swing here. In Louisiana, the optimum planting dates are from March 15 to April 1. After that, yields start to slip, and after April 15, it's best not to plant corn.

We'll try to start planting soybeans around the first week of April.
