The whole issue of farmers not buying conventional seed goes back to the industry pushing all of the traits into their best genetics. It is a viscous cycle where they put traits into the best corn so we tend to plant more of those varieties so then the company says, "Look we sold more of the corn with traits so we had better offer even more of it!". Personally, I do all a can to buy only the traits that I need while getting good genetics but that can be very difficult. Companies don't want to offer plain jane versions of a hybrid because that is more inventory to manage. The best base genetics have to be the primary factor in the purchase and unfortunately all of the stacked traits tend to come along with it. I find this to be very extremely frustrating, especially since I hate paying a RR tech fee even though I never use glyphosate on my corn.
