Had a '99 Chev extended cab 1/2 ton 4 x 4 with 5.3, got 20-21 mpg running 55-60. Son a Chev. Master tech. He thinks the 5.3 a much more reliable engine than the 4.8. I now drive an '05 Dodge 3/4 ton 4 door 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi engine and get 18 mpg running 55-60. Chev rides nicer, easier to get in and out of. Dodge a better puller.
