I certainly wouldn't use plastic or hydraulic hose to plumb from the compressor to the tank. Normally a short piece of steel or copper there and I used some high dollar, special hose to run from the compressor on my tractor.

I've never checked it with a thermometer, but the outlet from my 60 gal shop compressor tank has never even felt warm when I turn off the master valve on the outlet. Tank surface area seems to be enough to cool the amount of air that we use.
