Subject: RE: Cornstalk dirt?

So. IL
No-tilling soybeans into cornstalks is common around here. The non-Bt stalks shatter pretty easy when drilling the beans. The Bt stalks are pretty tough at planting but will generally shatter and run thru the combine fine at harvest. Not aware of any problems with "dirt" wearing things out in the combine from this practice. The biggest problem we have seen in recent years is stubble damage to the tires from the Bt stalks.

As far as the cutterbar, we are running the factory original on a Deere flex head with perfectly acceptable results.

Please elaborate a little. What is "cornstalk" dirt and where does it come from?
