Little River, TX | soil test is commonly reported as Nitrate-nitrogen
Nitrogen soil test results are usually way off.
The usual thing is to consider the organic matter and convert that to nitrogen.
Another Lab may test for Nitrates only. This is reasonable in many soils, but in the other soils there is a good reserve of ammonium form of nitrogen. To add to the fun many times nitrogen in transition between ammonium and nitrate will be as a nitrate.
With my grass hay, and using only anhydrous as a nitrogen source, I annually remove more nitrogen as crude protein than the Lab is reporting. So I simply keep track of how much is applied and how much is removed and the difference is residual for next year. | |
