For all the scientific talk, many of our terms come from shear confusion.
Over at least 100 years hundreds of university research has been accomplished and from this came our current professional jargon.

Fortunately things are calming down a bit. Now it is reasonably universal for soil test to be in ppm N through ppm S and beyond.

Plant analysis is reported in %N thru %S and many times % Cl. Reporting the micronutrients in a percentage results in too many zeros so though are reported as ppm Cu on to the end.

Our regulators like to add to the confusion. NO2 and NH4 are referred to as N and so reported.
The US insist on P2O5 though some prefere PO4, and use K2O for the amount of or percentage of potassium.

Our 10-37-0 is probably labeled as 10-15-0 By the French and the Chinese.
