Same way here. Waited over 2 weeks on my fat hog buyer to get a slot at sow plant. Finnaly gave up an went with local buying station. He found a buyer that believe it or not was going to ship these ol girls to california live, then slaughter out there. What few sow plants that are still around are totally overwhelmed with sows to kill.
We have had sows [farrow to finish] for over 30 years, never were ones to hop in an out. But this time we have $5 corn to contend with. We had a good corn crop here this year and I damn sure aint goin to stuff it down 30 cent hogs and turn it into $ 3 corn! Going to do some maintaince on my facilities and keep back some gilts to breed . Reevaluate things later on, an see what the markets look like then. What few of us are left in this area are doing similar downsizing. By the way while the at local buying station last week, most all the hogs there were sows.
