S.E. Nebr.
Lots of rumors flying around the hog industry. This is what I know. I took some sows to local hog buyer this past week. I've never seen him so stressed out on buying hogs, sows, and boars. He told me in all the years he has bought hogs (over 30 years) he has never seen the sow market so saturated. He cannot move any sows period. All plants are full. He has a two week waiting period. So he has to keep sows at his barns and feed them. He said if he could he would shoot all boars and bad sows but he can't. Sows are bringing around 13 cents for big sows here. Boars you just as well shoot them than waste any fuel taking them in. Neighbor of mine sold 200 50lb pigs at sale barn last week and got 4 dollars a head. As for me I'm staying in always have. The big boys are losing alot more money than I am.
