No problems here. We installed one about 5yrs ago outside in a lot that usually has no more than 25hd. I wouldn't worry about the plastic part, our fats abuse it and it looks nearly new yet.
Put in a good sized ground tube, and we put the optional heat in it. No problems freezing even down to -10. Even lower temps shouldn't be a problem.
