NE | Jim ,
I assume you are NOT using Hi Tensile wire and using lighter gauge electric wire or polytape or polywire for your hot wire ? If you used Hi Tensile and tightened up to the 250# level ...#9 wire twisted would not hold for long. The breaking strength of # 9 isn't anywhere close to the hi -tensile and therefore isn't really compatible. I realize #9 is easier for most guys to handle but once you use Hi Tensile and have a few tools its a piece of cake.
On a side note...How'd you get along with the poly tape and temp fencing this fall/winter with all the ice/snow/wind we had ? Wind and ice is a bad combo for polytape . I had two little short stretches dividing a cornstalk field apart..after 2nd ice storm I gave up and ran a hi tensile wire quickly and quit worrying about cows on the road in middle of the night so I could sleep . Take me 10 mins longer to roll it up in the spring but atleast I know where the cows are ( unless the fencer takes a crap ).
Stay warm !
