We calve 200 cows a year and have never had a cow choke on it before and we don't throw it away either. Some cows eat and some let it lay. We used to have a cow that would eat other cows afterbirth before she had a calf. She didn't ever raise the best calf, but she a protective mama, so I think it's more about the predator thing.
