I have seen and heard of a lot of cover crop ideas, this is a new one. How much grow time do they need in the fall, how much cover do they provide, and do you have anyh estimate of how much N they will provide? FWIW, I seeded a mixture of crimson clover and forage radishes in wheat stubble late august 06. Where I ran out of radish the clover was much thicker, the radishes were really overpowering. Beatiful corn field this year. This fall I could still find holes in the ground big enough to stick my thumb in. This year I took some silage off 3rd wk of august and thought I'd try the same thing except I arranged drill to drop clover and radish in alternating rows thinking I may still get benefit from radishes while allowing less competition to clover. Didn't rain for 6 weeks after I planted and the radish seemed to be less hindered by dry than clover. Once again my radishes are shading the clover!
