Unofficial test - 30" rows and 8" drilled on the same farm.  Both no-till.  Not the same field but similar fields in type & production history.  30 inch rows were short, like 15-18" tall, of course didn't come close to closing bulks, got very weedy & required 3rd RU spray.  Made 28 bpa.  Drilled were no taller but didn't require 3rd spray. Made 31 bpa. Like I said - very unofficial.

Purdue's local farm (Davis-Purdue Farm) said we were the driest June-July-August going back to 1900.  That's probably the real answer.
