Penobsquis, New Brunswick, Canada | i have worked 3 new-to-me pieces of hayland this summer, 2 not plowed, lomed, manured or fertilized since 1981, the 3rd since 1966. the 2 pieces have only been hayed, the third let grow up in bushes. pH is 5.4.
the 1981 pieces i chisel plowed, plowed and let rest, they will get winter rye and winter wheat this fall and later next summer they will be sowed with AC Greenfix. after the harvest and frost they will be chiselled and let lay till the following spring when they will get buckwheat and AC greenfix. and harvest the buckwheat.
the 1966 will be clip/mulched, chiselled this fall, probably 3 times, let lay till next spring. then plowed and oats planted. with a greenfix inderseed.
the idea of working these fields this way was to restimulate the aerobic bacteria......start the soil livestock working again, and then feed them so they will feed the crops i produce. high levels of level 1 and 2 O.M. seem to compensate for the pH levels being below the 7 mark.
