Subject: RE: Clover question for the grass seed guys

Stearns County, Minnesota
This is many years ago, back when I was growing on a farm in NW Iowa, but my memory is that Dad would seed oats and red clover seed.  The oats would be harvested as a regular crop and the red clover would have enough growth to take a small crop of hay from it in the fall.  The next year, the first crop would be harvested as hay on the red clover.  The clover would grow out and then in late August or September, we would windrow, let it dry, and then combine for red clover seed.  My understanding was  at that time the red clover was considered a bi-annual and would not grow the third year.  If it did show up, it had seeded itself.
