The key is to put corn in the pile dddrrrryyyyy so it can stand some moisture, get it cooled down as cold as possible, and move it early.   You need a well drained spot to build the pile....water definitely should not stand on the pad.   Also, there is less spoilage on a big pile then on a little one.
