Stearns County, Minnesota
Here in Minnesota, in the fall, elevators will fill their bins first.  By the time they start piling it outside, the temps are quite cold, and if we get precipitation, it usually is in the form of snow, which will blow off the piles of corn. These piles of corn are generally processed or shipped out by early March, before we get much rainfall.  I would question how well this would work in the south, where their precipitation is in the form of rain.
