I look at it this way. How much is it costing me, above the water shrink, to bring in the corn wet?

My table shows 1.124% shrink for water removed.

20,000# / 56 = 357.14 gross bu - actual shrink of 40.1 bu. = 317.03 bu after water shrink.

Elevator figures 1.5 % shrink per point so....

20,000# / 56 = 357.14 gross bu. - elevator shrink of 53.57 bu. = 303.57 bu I will be paid on.

317.03 - 303.57 = 13.46 bu I am giving up to bring in wet corn.

Say $3.50 corn x 13.46 = $47.11

$47.11/ 10 points/317.03 = 1.5 cents per point over 15% to bring in wet corn.

So instead of getting $3.50, I am getting $3.50 - .15 = $3.35/bu.

It is costing me 15 cents per bu, above water shrink, to bring in wet corn. I am able to usually let it dry in the field.
