We just did two like this. I dont rember the size of the pad. Have neighbor who does concrete work and we tell him what we have in mind and he does the rest. Its a omni 5 and has the adjustable thermostat on the water trough. We have the insulated tube for the water line to come up into the waterer and the heat tape runs down to the frost line inside that tube. Water line buried 4 ft deep but frost line here is normally considered 3ft. We rarely drop to anything beyond -20F and not for extended periods of time.
