In my opinion it is awful in that it takes over. The reed i have is from seedings from 40 years ago and is definitely the lignin kind. If you are sowing the seed I would rather try eastern gama in we t soil. (never planted it but would love to try it) I think your plan sounds good just be ready to change with the coarse. Maybe look into perrenial Rye grass if it will survive the winters where you are at. You may look at forgetting alfalfa if you are truly running stockers and you won't need it to get calves going. Good grass hay and some distillers will cost less and use those acres to run more calves.
