Subject: Re: Need Tips on Bottle Calves Do's Dont's and What to Watch out for

Broome County NY
I have 10 Holstein heifers tied in the barn now that are 4-8 weeks old ( bought then a day or 2 old) make sure they had at least 2 feedings of colostum when 1st born
My 11 year old doughtier has them drinking out of a bucket in a day from when we bring them home
If they sucked there mother you will never get them off a bottle
they should have a ecoli pill at birth
keep some la 200 around incase of anything.
2 bags of milk replacer per calf can do it with 1 but 2 bags work better im paying $70.00 for a 50 lb bag
start them on some medicated grain at a few weeks old just a hand full to start and keep it fresh.
this is my first time doing this to so don't know everything but lots of help from local farmers and feed store
I paid $170.00 per calf from 1 farmer and a $1.00 a lb from another all good heifers no twins
I will try to get 20 next spring when my kids are out of school
we will keep them and breed them at 13-15 months and sell them as springing heifers
was told most infections come from the navel on a small calf so they should be dipped and kept clean
