NW Iowa | I run a murphy tunnel vent site. I have some trouble with the hard buildup, but have never had to scrape it off and shovel it out--holy cow. I hire a guy to wash who has a really good way of washing. i soak about 12hrs constant flow, then he comes in and washes (cold only!) the floor first, leaving what won't come easily. Then he goes back and does gates, feeders, ceilings and walls. By then the hard buildup has softened enough to go back a second time and it usually peels off much easier. Then we disinfect. He can do a thousand hd finisher, fully slatted, in about 10 hours usually.
Anyhow, I've heard of this soaking with pigs in the pens. Once I accidentally turned the soakers on when I meant to turn the misters on and it lowered the temp in the barn by like 25 degrees in a few hours. How do you do that in the cold weather months without making it too cold in there? | |
