OH, am I old!  We built our home (or had it built, probably more accurate) in 1974.  Full brick veneer on the exterior and recycled old brick veneer on 2 fireplaces inside.  The brick cost us $0.13/brick for the material and $0.12/brick to lay it.  So $0.25/brick for doing all the exterior and just $0.12/brick for the fireplaces.  We salvaged those used bricks from old basements in the neighborhood and the old Morrell packing plant that was being demolished near us.   And just saw in a newspaper online yesterday that our brick mason passed away.
